 Tax changes in 2013

NewsDarryn writes "In financial year 2013 (in Australia) the ATO has advised that tax table 7 (Tax free threshold - no leave loading) will be discontinued and that we should use tax table 2 (previously Tax free threshold with leave loading).
Tax table 2 is historically a higher tax rate than table 7 which was taxed to cater for those who do not receive leave loading.
This is your government giving tax cuts with one hand and taking with the other.

China's bid for the Asia Pacific area

OpinionGuest writes "Future Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has made it clear to Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr that Australia will have to choose between it's alliance with the USA and China.
China's trade with Australia makes this more than an offer...in fact it makes it 'an offer we cant refuse'.

 Home Grown terrorism

Opinion
September 11, 2001 I remember watching television. I cannot remember the name of the show and whether it was a favourite weekly episode or a movie. All I remember is seeing a news flash referring to something happening in the United States. My first thought was “I will take a quick look at the news which is after this movie and then go to bed” – I never made it to bed that night.

 Latest Newspoll results released

Newsdarryn writes "The ALP is facing a defeat of biblical proportions according to the latest  Newspoll figures.
The figures, taken from 1152 random voters show the Coalition ahead by a massive 59-41 per cent two party preferred which is a greater margin than John Howard ever achieved as Prime Minister.

Julia Gillard’s approval rating is at 23% which is 6% greater  than Paul Keating’s record low of  17%. This, combined with a disapproval rating of 68% makes for very shaky ground for Australia’s first female Prime Minister.
Tony Abbot, leader of the opposition, now has a 9% lead as better Prime Minister over Julia Gillard.
If  changes are not made soon the next election may show Labor as a minority party with the Coalition in power with a Green opposition."
